“Shared journaling outdoors helps people reconnect… with nature, with creativity, and with each other.”
Are you looking for customised Nature Journaling Workshops to offer your students, employees, volunteer members of your organisation, or for your local area constituents and/or the general public?
I offer customised learning experiences, through the delivery of tailored workshops that can address specific local environmental issues, or individual group requirements, making the learning experience more relevant and impactful for participants.
Customised nature journaling workshops provide many benefits for both participants and groups/organisations:

reduction of stress, improvement of mood and enhancement of overall well-being.
contribution to citizen science projects by gathering valuable data for research and conservation.
enhances observational skills and creativity, which can have a positive flow-on effect in participants personal and professional lives.
professional development opportunities for teachers, equipping them with new skills and methods to engage students in nature education.
hosting and supporting educational initiatives like nature journaling workshops can enhance the public image of organisations and local governments, showcasing their commitment to the community and environment.
2026 Customised Workshops
Nature Journaling for Bushcare Volunteers [Private Workshops]
Dates: Saturday 7th March & 2nd May, 2026
Time: 8:00am - 11:00am
Location: Berrinba Wetlands, Browns Plains, Qld
This outdoor workshop introduces Bushcare volunteers to simple, practical nature journaling techniques that support on-ground conservation work.
These sessions focus on strengthening observation skills and building confidence in recognising and comparing native and invasive plant species. Through guided demonstrations and a hands-on field component, participants will explore how journaling can assist with weed awareness, habitat understanding and long-term ecological changes.
You’ll learn how to observe plants more closely, record useful field notes using simple sketches and short annotations, compare species side-by-side, and use journaling as a memory tool during regular Bushcare activities.
No drawing experience is required. The emphasis is on clarity, curiosity, and noticing , not artistic skill.
Suitable for Bushcare volunteers of all experience levels.
*N.B. Both workshops are identical. Contact Todd Preuessner, LCC Parks Communities Officer for more information.
Testimonial.
“I had the pleasure of arranging and enlisting Kerry to teach a 6-week Nature Journaling workshop for a group of homeschool kids. From the very start, Kerry was incredibly easy to communicate with, flexible in planning, and accommodating with scheduling – making the entire process seamless and stress-free.
Each week, the kids looked forward to class with genuine excitement. The program was beautifully structured, teaching essential skills in a consistent, organized way that really helped the children progress. Over the six weeks, they learned to:
Simplify complex natural forms into basic shapes
Use lines to convey texture and patterns in nature
Understand light and shading to create depth
Explore foundational watercolor techniques
Match and layer colours to reflect nature’s palette
Apply all their skills to a focused nature study project
What was most impressive was seeing the kids’ confidence and skills grow so quickly. By the end of the workshop, their sketches and watercolor work looked thoughtful, detailed, and beautifully executed. And some are quite keen to continue progressing with the skills learnt.
Kerry’s warmth, patience, and genuine enthusiasm for teaching made the experience truly special. The kids not only gained technical skills but also a deeper appreciation for observing and capturing the natural world around them. I would highly recommend Kerry to anyone looking for an engaging, inspiring, and skill-building art experience for children.”
